Every time I transfer money on phone or whatever you get a question.comment at the end saying if you proceed now this transaction will happen immediately and cannot be reversed.
I am sure they can sort it for you now though **runs off to check if account balance has increased by £1k**

Can go either way.
If it goes into someones account and there quick off the mark in claiming you owed them it or you sold something , Then your fucked.
Or..
If they dont notice and you hope to fuck that they are the same bank as you then it should be fine.
Iv worked for banks and credit card companys since i left school and like said above, It does happen every day....But not always a good outcome.
Edit: People are saying its easily trasnferred back. HE done it, Its not the BANKS mistake, Its a 50/50 situation.

Thats only the case if its not an actual bank account he has sent it to, If he has sent it to someones bank account it will go straight in.
Its a BACS payment so it wont wait anywhere, Its a direct payment.
If its a different bank that owns the account or its a savings account i.e ISA then it can take longer to get back and by this time the account holder may have noticed the extra £ and done something about it to your advantage or against it.
Sure it will be fine.

The bank will know exactly where the money has went by tracing the A/C number you used.

Today or tomorrow.
Dont get your hopes up mate. If it was a straight forward issue they would credit it back or withdraw it and send out a cheque and that would take 5 minutes to confirm.
Sounds like they have a dilemma.

You only call him if there is a pigeon in your bank account.

If the account holder has noticed the money and withdrew it, you're fucked tbh
The bank should be able to see straight away were it has gone, get on the phone to them again i'd say
