Saw this on the news last night.
21 year old, no previous motoring convictions, kills 5 in crash.

What kind of sentence do you think he deserves ?

Manslaughter, just because he has no convictions doesn't mean he should be let off. Otherwise you could go out and murder someone, and just because you have a clean record you get a shorter sentance!
5x Manslaughter

Quit a few years imo, overtaking on a blind bend it ludacris. Plus killing some many innocent people.

One police officer said he had never witnessed such carnage in his 26 years of service

He deserves everything thrown at him to be honest, not just because he overtook on a blind crest, but also crossed a solid white line to get there.

I wouldn't say life...
Everyone makes stupid mistakes. ITs just a shame his one was this bad.
I say 2 years in jail and a 5 year ban waiting for him when he comes out. (so a 7 year ban i guess)

Words fail me.
Everyone makes mistakes? His mistake killed 5 people. 3 families lives will be changed for the rest of there lives because of his 'mistake'.
2 years?
I give in....

The phrase, "everyone makes mistakes" wasn't meant so lightly. Obviously he fucked up big time, but for me, living with the guilt of killing 5 people would be enough torture. Seeing the chaos and pain that i had caused to peoples lives would almost make me suicidal.
I suppose 2 years is a little light. Make it 5 years and a 10 year ban.

That was an eye opener that one Tam, the guy was clearly a very astute and clever person as well, would have made great reading as a book which i think he might have been contemplating if i remember right?

Agree with this, the prison sentance he gets will probably be the last thing on his mind, he'll have to live with what he did for the rest of his life.
It's different if you're a murderer/rapist/whatever as you do it intentionally - he never meant to kill all those people, he just majorly fucked up.
Any prison sentance will be to open other peoples eyes and maybe give other people a reason not to drive like a tit. His real punishment will be all inside his head.

Who cares what he has to live with or what is enough punishment for him. he took people lives and now they have to suffer so he should be locked up good and proper.
Doesnt matter what he has to live with, Its his fault, Tough shit to him.

I bet he wishes he had died in the crash, the guilt he must be going through must be unbelieveable, whats a prison sentance going to acheive? a bit of comfort for the victims families maybe, a prison sentance aint going to make him reflect on what he has done, he's going to have that on his concience for the rest of his life.

I've made silly mistakes like that before whilst driving, luckily *touch wood* i've got away with it, and stuff like this really opens your eyes I guess.
When I did make silly overtakes, go too fast round roundabouts, etc etc, I wasn't on a GTA killing spree - I was just 'having fun'.
He was probably doing the same, and look where it has got him.
I agree 101% what he did is wrong and he deserves punishment, but I'm satisfied in the knowledge that his punishment will come from mental torture, irrelevant of his prison term

This guy killed through drink driving, and he was sentenced to 4 years and 3 months (half of an 8 1/2) years and a 10 year ban.

Yeah it was pretty tragic, the fella was a bit of a literary genious though and the way he explained it all was excellent, really well articulated. Hence the people saying he should write the book.

I'm sorry but he should never be allowed to get behind the wheel of even a golf cart for the rest of his life. and yes he should serve a sentence.... and be made to work with the police in promoting safe driving! It's always the arseholes who live !

You're not the only one. When i first passed my test i thought i was invincible, and i tried (and successfully pulled off) some stupid moves.
Looking back, i was probably quite lucky not to cause any accidents.
