Electronic throttle.
Makes it more sensitive essentially.
People think it makes it quick (upping BHP) when all it does is make the throttle more sensitive - so you get more go for a heavy foot.

Upspec models also feature a Sport button so that the suspension settings, accelerator and steering response can easily be adapted to the mood of a driver. Its something weve become used to on premium sports cars but not on a car like this.

Might do, I drove a Vectra at work the other week had little reservoirs on each damper and it did drive alot better with the sport switch pressed. The Astra isn't noticeable.

That the Sport button on the Astras fitted with IDS does the following
'IDS Plus' (Interactive Driving System) suspension set-up. This includes CDC (Continuous Damper Control), which uses sensors - two for wheel acceleration, three for body acceleration and a steering angle sensor - to adjust the damping rates on all four corners in milliseconds. CDC can also 'talk' to the car's other electronic systems. There's the option of a BMW-like 'Sport' switch, too, which sharpens up the steering, throttle and CDC responses as well the shift pattern for the auto 'box.

I don't get how it changes anything suspension wise when there is only a Spring and a damper? No wires or plugs coming to or from the units.

ive heard on some cars, there is a big electromagnet and loads of tiny iron filings inside the oil-filled dampers. in normal mode the magnet is powered up and the filings stick to it. when sport button is pressed the magnet is turned off and the filings are free to move around inside the oil, making it thicker and so stiffening the ride.

That's on Audis and there aren't iron filings in the fluid. It's actually a ferrofluid in there.
