The Zetec "S" uses a lot of oil, more than any car I've looked after previously; I don't know if this applies to the Zetec though. They may not drink as much oil.
AFAIK they ar ebased on a Yamaha designed unit

yeah, they're pretty bulletproof; watch for rust on the back arches and rear 3/4 behind the front doors (if its a 3dr) the bonnet can rust if its stone chipped and just make sure the oil is kept topped up.
Checking weekly should be sufficient, but its easy to go two/three weeks if your busy and the engines gone bang.
Missus blew the engine in her Zetec S; engine oil warning light was on for less than 10-15miles

Sorry mate just got FB message.
I'd say anything zetec should be pretty solid and oil thirsty from what i've heard also (as above). Can't go wrong for a few months imo...

The early zetec-s suffered from oil starvation due to blockages (cant remember what was getting blocked though) which didnt show on the dipstick.
The 1.25, 1.4, 1.6 and 1.7 16v engines are all zetec-se engines developed by yamaha
The name zetec was used a trim name from 1998 onwards replacing the si.
