How do you handle the phone calls which come to your home that are clearly sales calls?
They're easy to recognise because when you answer the phone, theres a brief 2 second pause. I usually wait for the person to say "hello, can i speak to Mr.." then put the phone down
I've had 3 already today...one guy even called back
I'm looking for some funny ideas on how i can handle any others which might come through to me today.

My mate does some funny ones - He loves getting the calls.
He picked the phone up and kept someone talking for 15 minutes about his dead budgie once.
He also went spare at one then calmed down and apologised then did it again and again until the person rang off.
He went though a whole quotation for double glazing and doors etc and asked if the company knew anyone that would renew the windows in the garage and facias too. Then said "Oh... We're double glazed already, and I think you needed to talk to my dad". I'm pretty sure that was his record. Made that last 20 minutes or so.
I never have time to mess around with them too much personally. I normally just say i'll get someone and put the phone on the side.

the best one i had was when a company phoned me trying to get me to buy pre development land off them then give them first refusal to buy it back when it got planing permision
i got all the information sent to my door about all the perspective sites in my price range (500k in cash waiting in my bank account lol) sent to my door
then they would phone almost everyday while i went to see my accountant ect
all the time i was saying i was very interested until i couldn't stall them any longer
when they was trying to get me to agree and send me the contracts out to sign
i just said are you stupid i live in a council house with my partner and my son working as a security guard i make 1200 a month
where the fcuk am i going to get 500k in cash from
the guy on the phone went mad saying i have wasted over 10 hours of his time
and i told him you wasted 20 mins of mine in a phone call i didnt ask for so i decided to waste yours dont phone back
and he hung up

The odd company might (unlikely though as they arn't allowed) but the rest don't. We have no calls what so ever here.

I usually keep them talking then when they staet to ask if i wanted it, just hang up
The best one i did was when we were getting 5 or 6 a day, in the end i got pissed off with them, asked him if his phone did this, and screamed down the phone
