My sister was taking me home the other day from edinburgh. Accidently took a wrong turn and was going 50 in a 40 without noticing.
Now on the other side of the road there was a camera which gave us 2 flashes.
On the side where the camera was there was the white lines on the road but on our side there wasn't any lines nor any signs stated a camera which there was on the other side when we came back down it.
There was also nothing coming the other way so it must have definitely flashes because of it.
Reckon she will get a fine and 3 points?

Why would the markings be on the opposite side of the road?

Im not questioning that, but speed cameras can be set up to measure you going to a from them.

I thought a camera could only get you from the side of the carriageway you are on? Single or double?!

Yeah but you can't be done from the opposite side of the road going to or from it. They are configured for one side only to or from. They can't monitor both.
Also you will have the standard 14 days to wait but you have to give at least 3/4 days postal allowance as well. Anything over 18/19 days and your pretty much in the clear.

a speed camera head can be twisted to monitor either direction of traffic, There are atleast 2 locations near me where this occurs.

if it flashes facing you nothing happens had it happen twice to me and nothing comes of them. + if something does come they shouldnt be able to prosecute you as it flashed at you which is dangerous or something. only cameras that dont falsh ie infra red ones are the only thats can be used to take the pic of your face and prosecute you afaik. (peepoi site or however its spelt is good)

Matt L is correct, front facing cameras do not flash but they do take your picture, people at work say its like a purple haze.

probably setup just to scare people into slowing down, no lines, no secondary confirmation to back up the fine = void
this only applies to the normal cameras though, which it sounds like this is one of

If it looked like this
And it flashed you head on (camera took a picture of the front of the car) then you cannot not be charged. Simply because it is invasion of privacy and if your face is in it, which im asumming it will be , then this cannot be used against you.
This si the case in Scotland anyway.

it can work against you tho.
a woman drove towards one of them. driving at 60 in a 40...on her phone. looking right up at the camera.
and denied it was her driving.
then the pictures were used against her in court.
lol she wont be driving for a while
