i started fitting my sport seats today and i snapped one of the socket peices, (t40) and when i went to source anouther i found out my brake pedal was hitting the floor and i had no brakes, i had to rip the handbrake up at the first t junction with shock, so i went to see my local mechanic who does a few of my jobs and he tried bleeding the fronts but still nothing happend he then said he wont be able to fix it for three weeks!!
so i went to borrow the t40 from a mate and asked him what i should do, now this man can do probally any job with a car, but he never wants to even though he has all the room and space and all the right tools, but he only fixs his own stuff, told him and he had a look, ended up wipping the rear drums apart and told me it was my rear cylinders, got two at £11 each, fitted them bleed them within 2 hours including gettin the parts paid him 60, which is worth having you brakes doen there and then,
so if anyone else goes out and find your brake pedals hitting the floor with no pressure and your car is a a older one(1993) and you engine braking in first is better than the brakes being on, then check your rear drums lol
sorry about the rant
happend to anyone else?

No different to inspecting the front brakes and servicing the calipers, you wouldn't put new brake pads in just because of that if the old ones had life left.

But i always thought if the cylinder had leaked brake fluid on the shoes, that they are contaminated and need changing?

So as soon as you noticed you had no brakes, you still kept driving about - just using the hand brake?!

iv had no brakes once was quite scary tbh. my brakes had been adjusted that day at the garage and was driving around with a mate in the evening but not noticed that my brakes had been on too tight so they were constantly on then after a while packed in when they finally overheated.
