Never experianced either but I like the look of the octavia, there is a nice 05 one in black in the car park. Looks really nice and the green calipers are pritty funky
Drives supercharged Tec with torque

All Skodas are solid cars these days. I'd prefer the Octavia over the Fabia but that's just personal preference. John and Steve will be able to tell you what you need to know about them!

Having driven John's pre-remap and been a passenger in it post-remap i can safely say it pulls like a train, doesn't feel like you're going fast either at high speeds!

remap will easily see 200bhp on the octy and with a few other choice bits can be turned into an extremely quick car.

I've driven the Octavia VRS. WoW, it hits 70 in 2nd gear. It also had a fair bit of work done to it. Was told that it had 300 bhp but it didn't feel "that" fast. More like 250 bhp. It handled really well too though it was on T1R's though.

They are nippy granted but not quick as its down to the sensation fron the torque that makes it feel quick.

Well i don't - like people have stated dervs feel fast down to low end torque
Not that 0-60 etc is an exact measure of perormance but a fabia does it in 9.3 which is not that good considering the size of the thing

without major work the new VRS will not exceed 245 - 250 BHP

so does a mini cooper, but once out of first the fabia sails past, which is where my faster then most people think statement comes from.
most peopel see 9.3 and think its pish slow, and yes in normal petrol 9.3 is pretty poor, thats corsa sport territory.
But like i said, out of first its a lot quicker then the 9.3 suggests

I have the Fabia VRS with a few suspension mods and Remap, Its a great daily drive (just clocked up 70k) but engine feels as if it was new. I constantly do 50mpg on a journey but if you start using the torque this will soon drop into high 30's early 40's.
Performance wise, there's a huge dollop of torque at 2k and its pretty much gone at 3.5k... On the road it feels quick (and compared to most cars is) but its no proper hothatch.... Mine did a 15.5 1.4 mile and to put it in perspective is pretty much the same straightline performance as a mini Cooper S.
Handling is ok as standard but way to soft for me. With the edition of springs and rear antiroll bar it really sharpened things up.
Brakes are ok as standard but start to suffer when pushed hard.
Maintainance and servicing costs are average, Cambelt at 60k (which cost £300) My clutch is due for replacement (due to remap) and its £1000 for an uprated one fitted... yikes! So be warned if you look at a higher milage one thats been remapped.
Build quality is pretty good (as you'd expect from VW/Audi) interior is simple but well screwed together.
Thats pretty much it really. I don't regret buying it, cheap tax, cheap insurance and good performance with 50mpg when required.

I just got mine back from skoda, after they have fixed my squeaky seat I really like it again.
If a standard one does 15.5 quarters i'd say mine must be in the 14's, remap also means its pulls right past 4k.
As above, cheap tax, insurance etc, all round good car tbh and i've not lost a traffic light gp to anything yet.
Whitter is always slagging them, his bmw engine with blown turbo's and that nobody can remap is better obviously.
