yeah im a plumber, I enrolled at my local technology collegeon a sunny summers day in 2003, I was in my last year at school and needed to decide what I wanted to do, my dad is a plumber and suggested I do that, I rang around a few plumbing companys round here and finnally ended up at the company my dad was with
basic pay was shit, it was £40 a week, now its gone up to £80 a week for new starters, it then increases as you progress, I currently earn £300 a week, and I have 8 weeks to wait till I do my final week of exams, I have already agreed to a site in chester for when I pass those exams and will be earning then £650 - £800 a week
im gonna say plumbing is the most graft out the 2, but as a spark you will earn marginally if at all less than a plumber and you will spend most of your time clean, however there is a demand for plumbers and you are NEVER short of work, I have jacked a job in the morning and been starting a new job the next morning it really is that easy

I worked for a plumbing & heating company as a contracts surveyor, basically from what ive seen the apprentices all came from family members that already worked for the company. Faither, uncle, Bro etc worked for the company. mattk backs this up.
I once wrote to around 50 local companies asking about becoming an apprentice, around 4 replied saying no thanks.
College courses (ones worth doing) are almost non existant.
Thats what I found anyway!

im a sparky
done 4 years at college. ONC and HNC in Electrical Engineering. And also did a NVQ level 2 and Level 3 as part of an apprentaship with my company. I do industrial wiring though and not house wiring. To do house wiring you need someing called a 'part p' and 17th edition inspection and testing certificate. i only have bog standard 17th edition

thats Price work, we dont really do day work
Colin out of a course of 125 lad ( split into 3 groups ) there are 4 of us who got the job through family members, age is the most important, if your 16 you will have no problem, the older you get your chances drop greatly

If thats price work I would suggest you are a lucky man indeed....I would expect to pay £200 a day for your services if you had 10+ years in the trade....what are you working on?

most brickys start as laboourers. thats why most brickys are shit
my dads "gang" hbefore he packed it in, had 50+ year olds and 1 labourer. they were faster than all the gangs that were like 20-30 and work 1on1 brickys to labourers. bloody youth of today
