S1 Elise, track fun out the box but top end of budget.

Rev3 MR2 Turbo, cheap but bit iffy handling? is that fixable or is it like an XE corsa? :fishing rod:

Some sort of older Impreza / Evo, again cheaper but 'drives itself so less fun'

RX7, supposed to be decent handling?

old dog 205gti with a shit load of cash for bits.

Exactly what adam has said.
Trackday fun time car, and not something i will proper cry about IF i crash it.
Needs to be good at handling.
Nothing thats expensive as fuck if it breaks.

£8k absolute maximum, thats including tyres.

Thats at the top end of what i'd like to spend.
A bit overkill using quite a nice car like that.

They sorted out the handling on the Rev three hence why people swap to the rev 3 spec suspension when tracking theirs.

Dont waste over 5k on a pug as you'll never see it again and its more than likely to be rotten.

I'd say S2 Elise but then again they can be money pits.

How about a Cat D 2.2 VX220? if its solely for track days?

Personally I would love a Clio Cup for track days, but as I would have no intention of selling it i'd buy a cat d one and just go nuts with it as they can be had for a few grand.

on a budget - pure track car....

S16 engined 205 GTi

Bit of both.... GC8 Impreza STi RA or R... but it would be much more expensive to run/maintain

So far, I've got up to this...

Elise S1, every single cheap one gets snapped up instantly. Turd engine.
Elise S2, out of budget.
Clio, FWD, not what i'm looking for.
VX220 n/a, out of budget, unless its accident repaired.
206 GTI, FWD, not what i'm looking for (sorry timmy )
Evo, too expensive to maintain.
S13 200sx, cheap to buy. But, I'd have to spend more to get it up to what i'd like it to be.

Impreza Type R, maybe.
MR2 Turbo Rev3, maybe.
Pro's and Con's with these 2 choices.

Impreza, slightly more expensive to run and buy etc. But, its pretty much trackworthy as standard.
MR2, slightly cheaper. Heard they're more of a straight line car, even though its got MR setup.

Impreza, quicker round corners. MR2, quicker on straights. Assuming they both have similar power.

You are one fussy fella

Both of them named above, I personally dont think they will give you the enjoyment nore the satusfaction that most of the ones you dissmiss will.

Apart from the imprezza the MR2 isnt really rated as a drivers car lets be fair, the NA GT however is very much so a well acomplished track car IMO

Fussy because I want to get something that suits me
MR2 was Japanese driver's choice at the time too.

E36 Evo, reliable enough?
I can't help but think its a bit "big".

get an Impreza RA..... early non STi version for 3k or so...

Spend 3k on suspension, 1k or brakes.... then save 1k for 'things'

Thats a reality if you want a nice trackcar

You see so many 'track; cars with utter shite suspension

Some of the TimeAttck GTR's from last year were running 6kgmm/8kgmm front rear.... and were not understanding why the car wasnt handling.... They had 600 odd bhp but fee still gave them a challenge with about 300bhp.

Our R32 (stolen) has/had 12kgmm springs all round, thats about 700lb in UK talk. Failry stiff.

For anytrack car in my future it would have to have mega stiff suspension, good brakes, sticky tyres, decent sump/oil cooling THEN power
