arranged a night out in chelmsford friday, asked around 17 people. about 15 of them said yes during the week. get to the morning of friday, about 11 people pull out. not enough people to go to chelmsford cause of cab costs etc

anyway, went to the pub with them in southend, they were going clubbing. but i mentioned a night that was happening on sunday. everyone said yeah... i made 100% it was going to happen! which is was, so re-arranged everything, pissed the girlfriend off by moving around when i was seeing her, and family etc. wake up to a couple of texts "sorry mate, cant make it anymore" thought well i need a good night so try the other two... surprise, they cba either

so now stuck in doing nothin, thinkin about how many times mates let me down! id day its around 60% of the time that they pull out at the last moment, often not letting me know at all. does everyone get this or do i need to find myself some better mates?

Mine are about as useful as a pedal powered wheelchair when it comes to arrangements, always bail out or come out with some bullshit story about how they have to take their goldfish for a walk or similar

I never back out of something when I agree to it. My mates over the years are notorious for backing out at the last minute, be it being ill, dodgy tea, need an early night etc.

Pathetic.

Occasionally had mates pull out. Always got my close friends that i can rely on and know that everything will go ahead and they won't pull out.

For a night out? Extremely! I could phone up at 4am on a Sunday morning and get someone interested in a pint!

Mine are pretty good, if they have no intention of coming out they just say no so this problem doesnt happen. Thats where the problem lies, they probably say yes knowing they wont be going out.

I used to have a very close set of mates. Infact, i had a few different groups of mates who i saw on alternate weekends.

Many of them i knew from school, but others were work mates of my actual mates (if you know what i mean). Over time everyone of them changed, they'd ALWAYS want to go out and "get as smashed as possible" and cause trouble, i was the quiet sensible one of the group...infact i got the name "sensible Aaron"

I grew tired of them all and started to drift away. Right now i dont have many people i could call "friends". I have loads of people i know through work etc, but they arent people i'd put trust in.

I also went snowboarding with 8 people not too long ago, only two of them i knew before hand (again, through work) I've since got to know them really well and we all get together about once or twice a month.

I lead quite a busy life with my career and dont really have the time or tolerance for "proper" friends at the moment

I'm with Aaron with this one. I'm really busy with my career and family to have the kind of mates that wanna go out every night.

Yeah i miss it, but i want to beter myself to purchase nice things.

But to be fair, they all stay in touch which is nice and i see them from time to time. They can see the hours i work are long and understand i have a flat too. Must have 12 -15 really good mates. I've become good mates with a few people i work with too. Quite nice when the manager takes off on you and they back you up to the main boss.

I'm 25 and rather picky who i trust as mates. Those 12 - 15 i'd trust with my life tbh.

Not one for clubbing, rather go down the pub.

youre a lucky man!

id only trust those two, the others couldnt give a shit about me tbh. worst is when you get in fights and people dont wanna get involved. real mates back you up regardless!

not that i get in fights a lot, but its happened. i have then frowned upon those "mates"

My mates are all from different groups - i.e. college, uni, work and even a few i've met through cs.

But the true mates are ones that stick with you through thick and thin.
