engine light is coming on now and again and my temperature gauge is right the red!! whats wrong with it ? ?

Over heating? How long does it take to get to the red? Does the fan come on? When was the coolent last changed?

the coolant shouldn't be the problem maybe it is the pump circulating the coolant? it depends on how long it takes.
