if you were to jack up a car on one side and take one front wheel off,start the car and try and engage first gear,will the car bump forward or will the lifted wheel spin freely?

minter,shouldnt get any jurk from the other side when the clutch is lifted?just thinkin gof a safer way to polish my wheels,than having both sides of the car jacked up at once with the engine running

Im prety sure both will spin because i weelspun in my drive the other day(by accident and there was two wheel marks!

You'll need more force holding the car than that required to overcome the mass inertia of the bits that you want to spin.

put both wheels off the ground with axle stands.

the wheels should spin even if its out of gear with the clutch depressed. so you shouldnt need to even put it in gear.

TBH, the bit which sounds daft to me is the fact that you're going to polish the wheels while they're spinning because of the engine. That's not "safer" really
