I have a 1.6 16v sport and I see a lot have been converted to 2.0 16v, obviously there is a 45bhp increase, but is it worth the engine swap or to just modify existing engine, I have never driven a redtop corsa and was wondering are they superfast compared to the 1.6?, that is all thanks

I used to have a corsa sport, and now have a redtop.
I was suprised at the power difference to be honest. Wasn't expecting it to be as much as it was.

I tuned my 1.6
I also had it converted to a 2.0
I wouldn't bother tuning a .16 again. It takes a lot of money to get done i.e. look at Dave A and Brosters spec sheets.
The 2.0 is a hoot to drive, you can tell you have a heavy front though, and thats the advantage of the 1.6 imo. The car handles as it was supposed to.

The 1.6 will handle better than the red top. Also the red top is about 45bhp more, but also has a lot of tuning capabilities.

an extra 45bhp is MASSIVE
not to mention all the extra torque you get.
There is no replacement for displacment
(apart from boosted engines)

it would cost you more to gain an extra 45bhp from a 1.6 than it will to do the complete 2.0 conversion plz correct me if im wrong

So true.
It makes such a difference, tickle it at 110 down the motorway, set off quick with hardly using the throttle.
I want another

More importantly, if you tune a 1.6 to make 150bhp at say 7200rpm
the c20xe is still going to make loads more power at 2500rpm so driving it round town is alot nicer. Peak power should not be the complete focus, there is more to it than that.

Beat my mates astra VXR and ST focuses to 60 many a time, and is very close to both up to about 80+ when they will start to pull away.
I went from a 1.6 to a 2.0 and its worth it! they are alot of fun even with the top heavy end

Get a good engine and yes. If you get a bad engine you will hate them .

Depends on the extend of the rebuild. I've been quoted a maximum of £900 for almost everything except things like pistons, conrods etc.

What about if you do it yourself, how much would it be for just the parts on say a 100,000 + engine?

Do you mean like with standard parts? Or how big the rebuild is?
Edit - What does need replacing on a high mileage xe?
