this is a request for a friend of mine. he's looking for a car which is not older than 8years (2000 or more recent). it definitely has to be a convertable and wouldn't mind only 2 seats. engines not bigger than 1.8
till now he looked at Mx-5 and MG TF (160). any more ideas?

MR2?
I personally would look at the VX220
price start £5.5k so it would be the rough end and the engines are above 1.8
if they want more than 2 seats BMW 3 series?

Probably get a half decent Z3 for that

mr2 is older than 2000 but no?
vx220 is either 2.0turbo or 2.2 and he can't get insured on more than 1.8.
astra is quite a big car

he doesn't like the shape of the MR-S. even i personally think mx-5 and MG TF are better looking.
what about performance? i know the mx-5 is quite nippy. what about MG TF 160 and mr-s?

i don't think that there are many goal posts to change! i just asked for some ideas with regards to a convertible car for less than £6k.
If you are referring to the fact that i said that mr-2 are older than 8years, then probably you're right but i don't know how it is in the uk but in malta we get MR-2 and MR-S. when u mentioned mr-2 i didn't think you where referring to what we call the MR-S! hope that explains abit.

MR-S - Japan
MR2 - Roadster - Europe
MR2 - Spyder - US
We have the MR-S because most are imports from Japan [ ]
MX-5 is what he can get at that price Rob. Difficult to find a convertible if he does not want an MR2 or Astra (I even doubt the latter in Malta).
VW Golf Cabrio if he changes his mind on year group and the rest of the £ for modding
