i had an early start this morning to get to torque of the devil for 9.00am, i thought it was about time i had it checked to make sure the AFR was ok and it wasnt detonating.

it was a good day but however was a slightly dissapointing one at the same time. everything was fine on the rollers AFR was good no adjusting needed which isnt bad to say i just guessed the fuel pressure

what made the day a let down was the power i came away with. it took a few runs well 11 actually to set the apexi to the desired boost. but it would peak to 1.5bar then drop and only hold 1.2 bar now matter how it was set. the operator suggested that the turbo may be struggling, unsurprising as its the only part of the car i havent changed from the mvaux kit.

the results were:

299.8 bhp
315 lb/ft torque
11.8 AFR at full power

here are the graphs to show the results:

bhp/torque

boost/AFR

notice the big drop in boost then it rises and sort of holds but by then its made peak power and starts to tail off.

in the nova it made 297.8 bhp and 257 lb/ft torque on

phase 3.5
fmic with 60mm pipe work
4.5bar FPR
mvaux turbo kit (t34, external wastegate etc)
steel headgasket

heres the graphs from when it was in the nova:

bhp

torque

i didnt have a figure in mind but i was hoping for more than that seeing as the spec has changed a little since then, nothing that will dramaticly change the power though, the new spec is

phase 3.5
vxr injectors
cossie webber FPR
enlarged 60mm top hat
fmic with 60mm pipework
tubular manifold
garrett t34. 0.42 ar cold side
tial wastegate
ported and polished head
head studs
cometic head gasket
low comp pistons 86.5mm
oil spray jets
steel rods
apexi avcr

iam going back in 2 weeks for the SE rolling road day so i will see what the results are then, not that i expect them to be different but a comparison with 2 different runs will be good to see.

i think i may have to look in to a new turbo and omex management sometime in the future but iam happy with the way it is now.

Ive had this problem with setting my apexi up, have you got it wired to the throttle signal to help it self learn?

Mines not connected to the throttle and when you up the boost on the apexi it can take a while to learn how to hold the boost properly.

You can set the duty at different RPM manually to try and cure it but its a pain in the arse.

On the rolling road we decided to turn the apexi off and set the boost on the actuator so it held steady at the boost I wanted. then I let the apexi learn it over the next few days

Might be worth looking into instead of changing the turbo

how does it drive lower down the rev range, looks rich below 3-4k.

every thought about running this on some proper management? i struggle to see why people spend so much money on bits for the c20let then put a phase 4984 kit on it.......

get a proper turbo and some decent management and itll drive loads better IMO, we fitted an m-vaux kit with ext gate to a car and the quality was erm..... well! seen better

it drives really nice to say its quite rich. mangaement and a new turbo were always on the cards, but with a house, two kids, a dog and a shit job £3000 is somewhat hard to find

Thats a good figure, but should be running more im sure. I've seen phase 2's running nearly that. You should be into the 300's easily especially with an uprated tubby?

Might wanna have a word with Dave at V-tuning as he's the daddy at getting power from the phase chips. Or at least put you in contract with those that do. (Although I thought the phase chips were plug n play jobbies).
