first year was prudential = wasnt bad never really had to use them.
second year was RAC = excellent service and the bloke who dealt with me most of the time was excellent knocked £700 off for me.
and this year = swiftcover and so far no problems and excellent price.

Year 1 - Zurich through local High Street broker where dad has gone for years. Charged me £1k, 12v, 18, 0 NCB, license for 1.5 years. Had a crash with them and was VERY impressed with the service. Car damage valued at £1700 and they DIDN'T write off the car.

Year 2 - Endsleigh, underwritten by ZURICH. £780, so cheaper than Year 1 WITH a crash declared. I feel this cheap price is because I'm a student, and their insurance is for student & professional people. My guess is that they want me in their system forever tried to charge me £1300 for lowering the car, so not good with mods. But cheaper quote WITH accident was too good to turn down

1 year -0 Endsleigh, like Dean took advantage of the student offer that they give (i was also with them for my contents insurance) - had my crash with them (see sig) and they understandably wrote the car off but were exceptionally quick at dealing with it and valued the car at a price i was happy with. smaller details like claiming back headunit (damaged) all happened very quickly and made the awful experience alot easier. cheap to that yr was ~£600 with 2yrs driving, 0NCB

Now with ECar and i cant rate them enough. All done online so their costs are reduced. accepted all my non performance mods and charged only £70 for each performance mod i added mid term.
they gave me a quote at £600 the yr following my crash (so made no difference juts missed out on the NCB) at this yr pay £400.
loads come as standard: breakdown cover, legal cover, courtesy car, etc and have been the cheapest each year i used them by £200
they only seem to like 21+ drivers though as my mates over 21 only got good quotes

Im with Swift Cover: £750 FC - 21yrs with 2yrs NCB

Everything is done online you login and you have a profile showing details of your claims, you print your own cover notes off etc etc.

If you phone them (you shouldnt need to tho) their customer service i found was excellent.
