Been looking at these today while bored, trying to get a feel for what id like next (wee while away!) Think I fancy something fun after my 18 months in a diesel
Does anyone know about all the different models available (UK cars).
Would 12 - 13k get a good one in say a years time?
Thoughts are either an Evo 8 or Focus RS (like them but think id prefer 4x4 over FWD in a 'performance' car...not sure) both about 03/04 plate & I think would cost around the same......other ideas an M3 but not sure id get one for my cash, probably a dog, older/high miles if anything.
Anyone clued up?

Wouldnt buy anything older than what I have - 02. I do have a soft spot for Stickered up Red Malbourgh TME Editions tho But no it would have to be an 8, or a very nice 7!

Evo 8 has the 6 speed gearbox thats actually not as nice to use as the 5 speed. More economical for long drives though.
On tarmac the 6 is better but if you hit little Welsh gravel roads the 8 will storm ahead.
If it were my cash i'd buy an older one in really good condition

Dunno where you got that from, but the 7,8,9 are all better than the 6, hence the name evolution, I prefer the 6 myself but the newer cars are definitely better

Its tried and tested that on a tarmac track the 6 wins. There was an episode of 5th gear when the bint tested them.
Its only of mixed surfaces that the later ones rule all

better turbo, cams, suspension, lights, oil cooler, aluminium roof,
cooling system (something to do with the head)
5 ply head gasket instead of 3 (can run more boost safer)
not sure about other engine parts but the MR can run 400/400 safely with standard turbo and internals.
oh and of course available in gunmetal grey an MR only colour unlike silver and red that was also available on the 260 gsrs.
