Cat D is a minor write off, I'd still buy it as long as the price had been adjusted accordingly.

If it has been repaired properly, the only thing that it would affect is the selling on price. Being a 106 GTi, a Cat D could occur with a wasp hitting the front bumper.

Only if he's giving you a significant amount off the car to make up for it and the fact you'll lose the same when selling.

cat d can sometimes mean stolen and recovered so not necessarily any damage on the car itself.

my corsa is a cat c write off but only had panel damage and a driveshaft snapped.

To be fair I've bought and sold loads of cars that are "on the list". Nothing wrong with them if done correctly but there only worth around a two thirds of there propper value

Does the hpi check tell you when it was written off?

If it does check to see if it matches when he had the car to see if he's lying.

I'd only take it with 500 off if the original price was 1500.

shouldnt do but you need to tell the insurance, and sometimes they will want an engineers report or similar showing the state of repair and what happened

depends on reg / mileage/ leather ect

eg r reg without leather go for 1500-2200 so would pay 1000-1500 depending on condition
