Yeah didn't think it was good for either site. He is coming back to update us when he knows more about the car. Contrary to how it might have appeared, there were a few of us actually concerned about getting the car fixed and I think he's altered his plans with regards buying a new car anyway if his old one will fix.

They already have. I tried ringing the tax office this afternoon after getting his details but got pissed off after being on hold for 35 minutes!
22 pages on BTTOS including Fuzzy Orange saying he will sue us for 'slander' (poor sod doesn't know what libel is obviously!)

Lol this reminds me of something I read on another forum recently about 106 owners club.
Castle Combe action day give free entry to clubs, but yet they were charging like £15 to their members...
Like all the club discounts they got, they just charged their members the normal rate and were obviously pocketting the difference

Thing is I didn't have anything against him till I read that BTTOS post and his agressive insults at members of that forum.
But the main thing was his constant lies and inconsistancies...
1 sec he says he could take insurance but it wouldn't pay out enough... therefore he'd prefere donations from people, the next second he claims he has no insurance - so relies on the payouts (which he canceled himself for no real reason)...
At one point he says he was earning over 40k a year from freelance web design, which he gave up to run the site... but then states how he is so poor, in debt, drives a 106, etc. Use your common sense if you can earn over 40k and you're in debt, then don't quit your job to run a forum. I think the reality is, he wasn't earning near on 40k before he ran 106 owners... a large exageration on his part.
Just like, where he says his site is a gold mine for advertisers, getting 1 million unqie visits a day!! ... then people point out he's wrong and he finally gives in he read it wrong and it's infact 5,000 visits and like 800 unique visitors a day. slight difference there.
It's like it the whole way through that BTTOS thread.
End of the day, I don't mind what Ian or Tim do with our membership money and I realise for the amount of cost and effort this site requires it's such a small amount to pay to support it.
But they don't literally beg for the money and openly say they deserve to be paid a wage by the members.
Just made me laugh when it was like 'After stuffing envelopes with member ship cards for a whole day, I feel that it's my right to go and buy a xbox game or part for my car out of the money I've been given to run this site ... Imagine if Willay or jr just pocketted a load of cash for some of the events they spend A lot of time and effort organising! Yes they may deserve it, but it's not their right to just put the money in their pockets.
Sums it up at the end where he says if he had earnt a load from it, he'd of bought a house. Once again not reinvesting the money people have put in to support the site and instead using it for personal gain.

I actually don't disagree that people should be paid to work. I just think if you're going commercial with it you need to be big enough to pay wages AND have enough money for the club. Most places don't. CS certainly doesn't. Also, if its running like a business it should be properly run.
I've nothing against it in principle, but you need transparency and most importantly from a membership point of view, it shouldn't make the user experience worse.
I've said for years I want to quit my job and work for CS but it isn't viable. I could count the number of forums in this position on a couple of hands, world wide. You can't just start somewhere up and fritter money off, it'll kill the place.

To be honest Ian, I hold great hopes for your weekend racer project.
The potential target audience, I think will also be more likely to support the club... plus once you get big enough / good reputation, the club can essentially organise it's own events, possibly hiring track or whatever, and thus offering reasonable prices to the members (better than a normal track day) but still getting the site some profit.
I also think there is a need for a weekend racer, as everyone's currently split off onto their own clubs in their track sections, but because of this, it's fragmented small groups of people everywhere, not enough to say singley hire a track.
but hopefully Weekend Racer will have the user base to be the market leader in this type of event organisation for the 'weekend racer'.

Read something about this quickly the other day. Personally i'd have a bit of pride before asking people to donate money to purchase a car. IMO, if you can not afford to buy a car, then you have no chance in running the thing.
