Hi,
I am currently looking for a new car got around £7k after being paid out for some1 writing off my DC2. I am looking at an S3 but are they quick as i thought the DC2 was quite slow actually. Also what other cars could i look at ? bare in mind i am 20 with 3 years no claims so no Subaru's or Evo's as they will not insure me on either of these.
Thanks
Sam

astra gsi's, clio cup's, seat ibizas are all in the same sor of league but no 4wd

You'll need a bit more than 7k for a decent S3 really.

For 7k youd be better lookin at either a Seat Ibiza cupra or the LCR
You'd pick up a mint Highish tuned Ibiza for £7k no problem

Excellent cars but you really need to spend a minium of 9k on one to get a decent one. Guy at work had his at 277bhp and torque was 280. Really was an awesome car. But if you get one don't take the traction control off

You're looking for a decent one for about 9k as said.
One with loads of options and mint condition, low mileage etc, you're looking at 10 - 11k. Also depends what age you want, the new shape will be much dearer.

You can't turn off traction control. But you can turn off ESP.

If i had that money id get somethin like a renault 5, cav gsi(non turbo), xe nova, 205mi6..just for a bit of fun, but then again your only 20 so insurance may rape you on either of them.

Going purely on what Viks said and other people who have owned them, they are not a "fast car" more a speedy cruiser.
Id love one, possible replacement for the astra tbh

Quick enough once remapped to get you to 100 in 13/14s and banned!

As said, doubt you will get one worth having for 7k, not a car to be run on a budget, I've spent more on 1 general service with new brakes and a cambelt change than it cost me to put an XE in my corsa

Thats nice Martin, was looking at that the other week. Don't like the boot build but loving the Lambo yellow, any reason why he had it resprayed though?

I looked at S3s when I bought my Astra.
7k will get you an absolute dog.
You need 10k at the very least IMO.

Technically only 4wd when it detects a loss in traction. IIRC.
