Ok grab a chair this is quite confusing.
Renewal was due on Sunday half 7, Id been getting quotes all weekend & got a decent one from Direct Line. I phoned them on Saturday to ask about mods on my car & was told by the woman after answering several questions about said mods & my age & value of them etc, told that it wouldnt add any extra onto my policy. Great can you sort this out over the phone I ask, no because its not on our systems yet, phone back tomorrow.
Phoned back Sunday & got a lad explained this to him & he said its still not on our systems (quote I had saved) I cannot give you your 10% discount over the phone, just order online now then phone back tomorrow & we'll make adjustments to your policy before sending the paperwork out. Fine I said, bought it online yest about 5pm!!!
Today, phone up just to make sure everythings hunky dorey, talk to someone else, explain that ive been given verbal comformation that i'll be covered for mods at the price I had online & was told to buy the policy & phone back up & person No3 says oh im not sure if we can do that, puts me on hold for a few minutes then comes back to say she spoke to the manager & there would be an increase of £130odd for the modifications. I protest this & they say 'we'll need to go listen to the tapes & call you back' well theres been no phone calls, the call centers now closed & im not sure if im insured or not
Anyone got any advice on this as im really going to need to phone back tomorrow now & explain the whole lot to someone else again

seen as you left it late and need to be insured i would give it another try see if they honour the original quote if not then i would just foot the 130 extra to get it sorted. tbh. unless you can be arsed to not drive the car and get a refund then sort it with some1 else. how much more was the next best quote?

I remember one guys name, cant remember the womans I talked to on Sat or the woman I talked to today. Im not that arsed, told them they were only £50 adrift from my next quote & not only will they lose my business for the car insuarance if they dont honour it I wont be taking there home insurance out either..............just a total mess I could be doing without tbh, stressed me out big time today!!

Nah Im not paying the extra on principle, esspecially if this is a taster of their customer service I could be doing without!!
Quote was £397, had another for 468 & some around 480 mark, so obviously its a no brainer to decline the increase to what £530

They'll have every single call even if they say they only may record them.
If they've said it they have to give you it, don't take we couldn't find the recordings for an answer.

Well thats what i would do in the situation its only 60 more than the next best quote and saves pissing about with refunds or going through the same shit with the next company.

Sounded like you had paid it and they wanted more. Just sounds abit risky if you dont know your insured or not and if you need the car to get to work in the morning sods law someone would back end you and open up a right can of worns

You have to be in the possession of a valid cover note or insurance certificate; if you haven't got these - you're not ocvers

The onus on insurance is on the driver; it is the drivers responsibility to ensure that all of the insurance details are present and correct "in written" form; not just over the phone. The whole point of a cover note, is to provide interim ocver until your full insurance certificate comes through. If you are not in possession of either and there are any mistakes, the onus is on you not the insurance company.
If your certificate/cover note turns up and is wrong, you are not technically insured until those mistakes are rectified.
A lot of garages now won't let you leave their premises with a car unless you provide a valid certificate of insurance or cover note

Got back on the phone to them today, they have decided they wont charge me the extra £135 & honour my verbal agreement that id be covered however they cannot waive the increase in excess that the mods would bring to my policy......other £200. Chap said ive got 13 days to decide & if im not happy he can cancel the policy & not charge me, also said im covered & have been from the 10th to include the mods. Said i'll phone back tomorrow.
Options:
1. Pay an extra £60 now & go to another company.
2. Pay an extra £200 excess.....only if I need to claim.

You can take out one day insurance though, how does that work then because there is not always a chance you'll get the documents through in time.
