I have got hold of a vento off a mate for stupid cheap and i am going to be striping it out and then putting something nice and fun in the engine bay but while it is being built im going to be sorting the rest of the car out; rust inside and out and underneath.
im looking for some suggestions on what should go under the bonnet, got a 1.8 8v at the moment but is abit nacker.
Here some pics.

You've got loads of options really, how big is your wallet?
2.0 8v
1.8 16v
2.0 16v 9a
2.0 16v ABF
1.8 8v G60
2.8 VR6
2.9 VR6
2.8 24v VR6
3.2 24v VR6
They'll all go in easily enough, but get more expensive as you go down the list.
the front digging in isn't a problem either, VW did the VR6 from the factory, and it handled rather well.

i dont think im going to go down the VR route, too expensive and too heavier engine.
I might go for a tuned up tdi.
What do people think to that, would i get some decent power out of it?

The VR6 was fine in a golf, can't see a problem with it in a Vento? Think of the noise

You'll be lucky to crack 150bhp with an older 1.9 TDi, and getting the decent modern ones in isn't going to be easy.

yeh i guess so, i dont know i will have to wait and see.
might just rebuild the 1.8 we have and see how it is. then get a big engine later.
p.s. not a proper rebuild just a quick one

I wouldn't bother, you're better off just buying another 1.8, it'd be cheaper than getting new gaskets, belts and tensioners, let alone bearings, rings etc.
You'd get one for less than £100 which wouldn't be a smoker.
