I nearly had a rant at you, but I read your post again & realised you're complaining because the fine is too low!
Yes it takes the piss! They should be forced to atleast pay out the cost of insurance as a fine.... and then some.

6 points isnt exactly a small fine though, thats half the points a full licenced driver can have before a ban right?

Yes they can put the 6 on your provisional. Most people would at least have one.

they enter you into a database, so as soon as you apply for one they are there afaik?
some lad at my school decided he buy his mates banged up metro off him for £50 he then attempted to drive it and pressed accelerate instead of brake round the corner and went through someones gate.

It is cheaper to drive illegally. No doubt about it.

It's not when you get cuaght out
I lost my job as a driver, and I cant get another driving job for a long while now
So loss of earnings
fine
fee for getting licence back
I had to keep my car insured when it was off the road (against theft)
which meant tax also
mind you I hadnt knowingly flouted the law, but I suppose people who have no interest in insuring a car will get away with it for long enough

For the record, my policy cost £680. So he's £60 better off than I am.
Then I could save another grand not insuring my other cars. Then I could say money on tax, then add up having done it for 10 years.
That fine should be MORE than it costs to have it, not a fraction of it.
Out of interest how long was he driving without insurance? I asssume he's younger so would have been paying grands anyway? And he got fined £600. I bet he's laughing.

if your insurance runs out at 12, then 12.23 may as well be 4pm a week later, no insurance means no insurance regardless

i think no matter how much your insurance will cost you MUST NOT drive without it.
My brother would'nt be here today if the driver of the car he was in didnt have any insurance...allthough the driver was a complete tit he did the right thing in insuring his car......who ever drives without insurance are complete IDIOTS
