I watched a very interesting programme on this presented by jon snow and his son...think that's where it originates from.
The top earners still only equate to a tiny percentage of the population (even with all the new money millionaires). So it's probs not far off right on reflection?

The wording is a bit strange i think, it'll mean your within the top percentage earning bracket for the year probably rather that within the top percentage personal wealth bracket. Also takes into account kids and pensioners by the looks of things!

Yeah and also as said most top earners don't have an amazing salary it's the share options etc they get that makes them rich and assets they have picked up over the years.
I would be suprised if there are many cash rich people these days.

Any sensible millionaire wage earners would surely leave the UK in favour of somewhere more gentle on the dreaded income tax
I would know I would, even earning 50k you only clear 35k once tax & NA has been robbed off you!!

Yeah, saw a programe on Sandbanks the otherday (4th most expensive real estate in the world) based near Poole, Dorset. There's still people living there on £20-40k a year living in a 5-6+ million pound house! They bought them years ago for peanuts and the area has gone out of control. Not a bad way to make a few quid

Alot of the people are under working age or over working age. it is only done on yearly income not what you have.
As well as stay at home mums etc.

I have a client in Sandbanks, really nice place - He has a new build apartment which over looks the harbour, must be worth £3-4million and it's no better than a £500k job here really Mental!

My apartment is close to it back in the UK. I live on Poole Quay I look over the same bit of water and brownsea island but a fraction fo the price lol.
