I've been looking into converting an old shape mini with a integra type r engine.

Realistically It'll cost £5k, and then the shell etc ontop of that.

After speaking to a mate last night he said.... what could you get for 8k?

I've been looking and found a nice trophy...

Also this, http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/344416.htm

What else is there thats, fast / small and worth the money?

Thanks for reading

I definitely wouldn't spend that sort of money on converting something. It will be a ball ache to insure and if you had an accident, all the money would go down the drain, more so than getting a replacement car, like a stock one imho.

That Clio is pretty nice

Thats what i'm thinking, would love to do something like that, but it'll end up been a money pit, It could be good fun, 0-60 in 4.5seconds etc, but for the price it'll cost. I'm not entirely sure it's worth it?

I can't see it. Then say you had an accident, at no fault of your own. Car is written off. Insurance won't replace because it's modified, then give you a measly pay put that'll get you nothing in comparison.

I know you can have the agreed value insurance stuff n'all but still.

If you've got £8k to play around with, you'll clearly be keeping the car for a while. So it needs to be fast enough, comfortable (to want to drive it for 3 years for example) and look good imho.

One of them Clio's would be ideal. You can still tune it

Do quite a few miles, this month i've done nearly 2000.

I would love to do the mini, but i can see spending too much money on it

mini pros:
put your own touch to it, alot of mods etc
will be mental
nice project to keep you busy/learn stuff
spending money across a length of time

mini cons:
lack of comfort
space
uh, old car?
running-in issues etc

clio pros:
out of the box is a good car for speed and handling, looks good too

clio cons:
cost in one hit
french
repair bills if it goes wrong
feels french
smells of garlic
baguettes

I imagine insurance on both won't be great at your age either, but thats just one of the pitfalls of having a nice fast car at a young age.

I wouldn't be doing 2000 miles per month in an old mini. I do like the idea but that wouldn't be practicle imo.

Lupo GTi or Clio 182 would probably be my choices.

Dont get old Minis at all. Never have, never will. Horrible things to drive IMO

I think an Astra Gsi Turbo/Astra Sri would be nice for doing mileage, and fast enough too,

and in your price range, Insurance isnt too bad on them, probably cheaer than a clio tbh

The only good thing about my Clio was the MPG and the auto wipers. I couldnt live with the rattling though.
