Right, about 3-4 month ago I sold a C20XE engine on ebay to a lad about 30 mile away from me, tonight out the blue I get a phone call from the lad saying the engine is nakerd, no compression and the piston rings are nakerd and he wants me to do somthing about it, the engine was fine when removed from the cav gsi, he payed £300 for it, he says that he would take £60 off me for his troubbles and that be that? but seens as it was fine when i sold it to him, where do I stand, for all i know he could of been ragging the tits off it for 3 month and its died, but he says he has just fitted it now becasue he rebuilt the top end.

What do you do with people like this?

I had this problem not long ago.
I lad bought a engine off ebay and gave it to me to fit.
In the end when i turned the engine over there was 0 compression across all 4.
We rang the bloke and he said no chance of money back as its sold as seen.

Wasent you was it

good point, ask what results he got then doing compression, he could of put the head together wrong.
He has taken the engine to bits, its now his problem he could of put it together wrong or built the head wrong.

legally he doesn't have a chance unless you gave him a written guarantee.

sold as seen doesnt always stand up in court, but if you sold him that engine knowing it worked and hes saying it doesnt- then tell him to jog on, its not like you said it worked and you knew it didnt.

send him a bottle of redex and tell him to do one.

Engine sold as seen, and if he has had it in bits then the quality of his work cannot be guaranteed at all
