...hypothetically, what would you buy?

You need to buy 2/3 cars, at least one 'sensible' for shopping etc, and the rest should be silly one(s).

Sensible would be an E34 M5 3.8 6 speed with the Nurburgring pack, like so -

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/332499.htm

So, that leaves me with £40,705.

Audi RS2

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/332857.htm

I've still got £26,205 left

968 ClubSport

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/323732.htm

I'd have £15755 left over, and I've bought 3 cars

Can anyone actually spend the money?

Nice selection Robin, although the seats in the RS2 are arguably fairly rank and i've acquired a healthy hatred for most Audis except the UR Quattro since having to fit steering racks on a lot of them.

I like the idea of the RS2 and have always wanted one but could be swayed by an E55 Touring or M5 Touring as far as my sensible estate car choice is concerned.

M5 saloon would get a massive btw, but could possibly be redundant if I opted for an M5 Touring.

I'd have a 928 GTS or CS rather than the 968CS.

Incidentally, there appears to be a distinct lack of the following in your selection...

Big turbo Escort Cosworth

RS500

Loon spec Mk II or MK I Escort

LWB wide body Caterham with BDA

Overfinch Range Rover

The possibility of, perhaps, an affordable-ish Grp B car if bought at the right time from the right place

Jim, with just shy of 16k left, I'd be able to buy one of the first 4 you mention I reckon.

Carlton GSI 3000

44.5k gone, so with my remaining 5.5k I'd have something like this with a bit of bartering:

Looking at it again - is that Nismo old one??

I thought the GSIs, by their very nature were the 24V variant of 6 pot.

I don't remember there being a 12 valve GSI.

There's 24v and 12v variants. 24v engine went on to become the C36GET in the LCs.

How much are you budgeting for each? The cheapest 964 RS I could find was £33k

Mate's uncle just picked one up for 25k over in Germany.

So i'd go down that route

30k for the 964 RS

8-10k for the e30 M3

10K (ish) for the m5

Can be done

Plus the RS and the e30 are depreciation free cars so you can't really loose tbh

Good point, I didn't consider importing one

It's good that you posted about the E30 M3 though, I've just looked on Pistonheads and there's a company offering M3 engined 320s from £3k I never would have spotted that if you'd not picked an M3!
