I never knew what this program was called, and just accidently stumbled across old clips of it!

I used to watch this program when I was about 5!

and it used to SCARE THE SHIT out of me... I remember having nightmares for ages where when i went to bed 'I was stuck playing the game in my head, and couldn't wake up (think it was just coz when i opened my eyes it was pitch black? ?)...

Either way, it's bloody creepy for a kids program. The poor effects just make it more creepy imo.

The basic idea of the program is, you have a team of kids, 1 would wear a blind mask / helmet and get led through a maze of dungeon and puzzles by his team mates who would see him moving about in a Virtual World (green screens blatently) - but it was proper creepy and weird

^^ I love the way they refer to it as the 'kids have died!'

and the fact that the life meter is a soliders face, that slowly falls apart, with the flesh falling off leaving the skull behind

and i remember the actors / presenter being geniunely horrible to the kids.

Like compare it to today's rubbish game shows like the jungle run crap and it's like

I actually remember this episode.

Thing is, i still don't really get how they did it, obviously he was blinded by the hat thing... but some environments were blatently green screened so that the environment they were standing in were graphics / drawn / picture...

but quite often things in their environment was related to what they could do or feel in the world, for example walking down stairs, holding banisters, or falling down holes - so the green screen environment must of replicated the shape / etc as the green screen backdrop.

The horn noise still jarrrs me.

kids used to be in a big building, and used to go in an elevator to different floors for different challenges - and there always used to be a big head on a screen in the elavator

the end task always ended up the kids swimming in a big bowl of soup to get letters to make a word - what was it called

Anyone also remember the spin off version? They had to do go-karting and stuff with the VR hats on.

Nightmare was cool, although I must have a been a few years ahead as it wasn't scarey? It was on kids tv

Firstly, VXR etc probably a few years made the difference, I think i was 4 years old when this came out, and probably didn't understand how it was done and thought they were geniunely in the dungeon for real and dying etc

Secondly, C2RL it'd be pointless if they made a new series, as half of the creepy ness was the shoddy set design / poor graphics etc... If they did it today it'd all be perfect Cgi and not scary at all.
