in july last year i pulled into the local cruise spot on a sunday night at about 8pm, i was parked alone in the first bay for no longer than five minutes, as i went to get a ticket a uniformed officer stopped me and asked what i was doing, i said im getting a ticket, he then asked are you leaving your car? i said yes i am going for a look around. he then took my reg, dob, name etc and told me i had to move on, i did as he told me.
yesterday i received a letter through the door stating that i must go to court on the 25/01/2008 or pay to cover costs of £75 and a fine. the letter also included 2 witness statements,1 from a seargent, bearing inmind there was only 1 officer on the day. and a cover letter about how "boy racers" with "big wheels and exausts" are a menace to society and the sea front.
what i am charged with i hear you ask?
parking in a public car park clearly with out the intention to leave my car but to meet people................................what the fuck?
this was at the grassy at sheilds if any1 knows it?

do i go to court or pay the fine?

surely if u win - you don't pay anything? or are u talking about loss of earnings or something if u have day off?
just attend court by post then, send a letter on your behalf explaining the situation. They read that out in court. Laugh at that joke that is 'trying to do you for parking in a public car park' and you save £75.

Is that some sort of made up law because you could have sat in your car and read the paper for 1/2 etc.. As long as you had a valid parking ticket, then again after 6 in most places are free to park. I'd take a days hols and go to court. (if it gets that far)

Did you have anybody with you in your car you could use as a witness?
That is absolutly ridiculous sometimes they really do annoy me how they spend their time doing things like this.

I'd so go to court and rip the officer to peices when he came to give his "evidence"
When did it become illegal to
A) Modify your car
B) Park in a carpark

luckily I dont have big wheels, exhaust or park at the 'local cruise site'
however the story is 100% true, police are actually stopping people from parking in public car parks even if they buy a ticket if the police think the sole intention od being parked there is to meet other people.
If I were you mate, get some advice from a solicitor (many give 30 mins free to look at the case) as I very much doubt there is an actuall law that you have broken. I would also speak to the issuing police station and the CPS and ask them to explain in writing which law and which section of the road traffic act that law relates to and when it was passed.

Dave is right, Ive had to deal with the above. Met some friends in a carpark, then paid for a ticket and went out for a drive with them.
Come back to 2 officers round my car with a torch trying to find a reason to do me. Took all my details, recieved a letter in the post claiming I had "wasted police time" and "congested a space in a busy car park". (That is nothing short of empty at that time of night)
Lucky my Mum knows one of the CCTV operators quite well.
