Was driving before.. Overtaking a car in 3rd, went for 4th, hit 2nd

I saw the rev counter bounce all the way round off the clock, and my mate behind saw a puff of smoke come outta the exhaust.

Apart from knackering the baffles which are already buggered.

Any other possible damage?
Seems to drive the same as before still.

I think i read before that if you were lucky and it wasnt in gear long there might not be any/much damage

on the other hand i think i read it can do quite substantial damage to erm, some engine bit valves maybe

Nah it wasn't in long, less than a second i think.

Dont worry, I did this in a Focus Zetec, made a fuss about it, got an EML and its done over 50,000 more trouble free since.

Baffles would be the last worry, but it wouldnt' do anything to the exhaust anyway.

You would just find that it would knock badly, you take the head off, and probably find all 16 valve inbedded int he top of the pistons.

If your mate was lucky, he would have been covered in oil and engine parts as it exploded beneth the car.

So i'd say your ok, just lucky...

You can normally drive about a mile at the rev limit before you get valve float and get piston contact. Depends on the engine obviously

Was gonna say, my diddy 1.4 sat for more than a mile in its short 30,000 mile life before the head gasket went

ALthough never any internal damage. I used to like my limiter, it sounded good with the induction kit.

Proper boy-racer-y'all.
