Dad took his normal sized Transit in to be MOT'd today.

The guy at Ford, told him all vans (I presume they mean bigger sized ones, and not Transit Connects, Combo's etc) made after a 2004 registration, will be restricted to 62mph on their next MOT.

The facts are hazy because my dad isn't exactly great at remembering stuff.

Just wondered if anyone heard about this?

It does mean that we won't have Merc Sprinters sitting up our asses on the motorways though but is going to make things dangerous when vans try to overtake lorries, as they won't be much quicker.

But my dad's is exempt from restriction, due to its age - the guy at Ford said he'd get a better 2nd hand sale value in a years time, because it will be legally unrestricted, as opposed to what he would have got

So yeah, anyone heard about this? I quickly searched Google and it returned nothing?!

It would be a shame I actually lol each time one goes flying past me on the motorway, then you realise your doing just shy of 80mph

Well, the MOT guy said to dad 62mph and vans from '04 onwards. This would be happening from later this year. One of dad's work vans that his business partner drives hasn't had an MOT yet because it's under 3 years old. When it does, apparently it'll be restricted.

As soon as dad said it to me, I said remove the restricter - will only be a plug & play thing in the ECU I'd imagine.

There's an EU speed restriction for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes as of Jan 1st, but I doubt that applies to most Transits. We've not been told about it yet, and our Transits an '05.

this is only going to effect vans over 3.5 tons - so most transits will be fine, although some sprinters will be limited

i know there are restrictions on mini buses (8 or more passengers) at 62mph for at least 12months. seems to make sense to me having the same size vehicles restricted.
