I do a 40 mile commute to and from uni everyday and since I use the motorway I've decided I need a Diesel. I cant justify the A4's fuel bill, and the Corsa screams at me like its going to explode if I ever get to 70mph. Ive got my heart set on a Derv, but I'm not sure exactly which one. It doesn't matter if its another A4, because I like them... but I'm clueless when it comes to other cars

It needs to be a big cruiser, so no Ibiza's im afraid, but apart from the A4 I really can't think of any other cars (other then the Passat that is). Can anyone give me some idea's, and if the Passat is really better then the A4

youve answered your own question my friend, the best bigger 1.9 Diesels are the A4's and particularly the Passats, there are some stunning ones for your budget with low millage and in great condition

Sorry mate, I meant German Dervs my bad.

Hmm Passat or A4 though It's something I want to keep for a few years, so I'm going to try and get a stunner... Not sure which one to pick though. I know both cars are based on the same platform, and even have the same engines, but I still cant decide

Wont just be for motorways, but its my main area of concern. The corsa does about 40mpg (or there abouts) and I only get 50-60 miles to a £10 in the Audi. Would save a lot more if I added my other daily drives... Or maybe a Golf?

You wont see amazing MPG from a 1.9TDi

People rave on about 55-60mpg, no way will you see that. You need to be doing 60-70 for 100s miles to see 55s. On average arouind town you'll be seeing 45mpg and on the motorway 47-52 mpg, depending on your speeds, slowing etc.

At current diesel prices I see about 90 miles to a tenner in my 1.9TDi 130 Ibiza (A polo basically)

Fair Play.

In that case a 100,000k Mk4 golf would not be a bad buy. My 72k Ibiza still honestly feels and drives better than anything i've had.

306 DTurbo's are fab for munching miles. I had one for 18 months. Fab car. Easy 55mpg from a 1.9 on regular motorway commutes. As said dips to 45mpg around town.............but then what does a petrol dip to. All things relative and all that ;-)
