Pretty difficult to get in, both mentally & physically. Not impossible if you apply yourself though. Some guys that were there when I done the tests had tried to get in up to 9 times. Your allowed to reapply for each years intake if not successful.

I got through the first two written tests this year.

The application itself is a test and is pretty hard.

I got through to the physical test but i couldnt make it as i moved abroad lol.

Would definately try it again though. Good money too!

I made it all the way to the final interview then got a letter saying "congratulations on passing evrything but due to 'business requirements' they could not employ me"

Me thinks maybe these business requirements require that I'm slightly more ethnic or female. Is real tough at the mo as this is what most brigades are looking for, that was my fourth time applying.

Does that not mean youve made it in but they cant take you on right now & you'll go into a sort of waiting list That was my understanding of how it worked.

Why anyone would WANT to be a fireman is beyond me.

To think they make admission THAT difficult is barmy.

They are saints and in too many cases martyrs.

My grandfather was a fire fighter and nothing impresses me more to this day than what those blokes are willing to do.

Genuine heroes.

changed alot, mate is one, theres girls on his shift who cant reach the ladders off the top of the truck, they cant carry 2 hoses, fukin useless, and they very rarely are in imediate danger due to the fact that there is a safety officer who dont let them risk there life as much as people think.

Police is quite a long process.
Police recruitment fair
Police application, which is stupid questions, When have you used teamwork in your life, explain what you did, others did and how the out come was affect by your involvement
Then its an assessment day which is a written test and also a maths test
Then its a role play session to see if you would be worthy
Then a fitness test, pointless, 35kg push/pull, grip test, beep test lv5

Then you will need to be an ethnic minority as they dont have enough to meet with the goverment guidelines.

Money is 27k starting
I think its 16 weeks at a training academy.
Then its 30k.

I applyed, got past the 1st section with a B grade, assessment day return form I sent never got to them
So another 6months time I will try again or ill be stuck playing online games for the the rest of thee life.

I applied to both fire & police a few years ago, fire I didnt get past the apptutude test, police I passed then knocked on the head after having a long think. Police is far too regimental for my liking, its more a way of life than a job.

I'll be under much less risk working on an oil rig than a fireman or policeman & I'll get paid almost double! I stand by my choice in the career im pursuing.

I know people that change once they join. Others don't but most get a chip on their shoulder.

Id LOVE to be a firefighter.

To come home and actually feel like youve made a difference to peoples lives and not just been a pen pusher or someones bitch for 8 hours of the day.

I love a challenge and in the fire dept you are challenged every day.
