Bit of an update really was a busy month last month me and Torsa g got busy over easter weekend.the old 1.2 8v engine was taken out on good friday and started to put in the 2litre 8v got it all bolted up on the friday night.

Sat morning started to finish bits off wiring the corsa loom to the 2lite 8v loom made the exhaust up, and sorted the gear linkage out. 1st problem we faced was there was no spark.. yea we missed the gear box earth to the chassis, got that sorted and fired it up, running fine 1st turn of the key bar a bit of tapping.. took it for a spin saturday evening around the block lost all drive, cv joint broke..

started work on it sunday. borrowed torsa g shaft and hub until i got a cv joint, took it for another drive sunday afternoon, come uptowards an island car started to judder, engine just stoped got towed back and that tapping turned out to be a bent valve took the head off within 30 minutes and managed to find someone with a 2litre 8v head so swaped all the bits over and got it running again that night. took it for another drive that night, no more tapping went into a car park and one of the coolant pipes poped off that goes around the back of the block...not good. manged to get it back on and sourced some water. took a steady drive back to toms house.

Monday... re done all the coolant pipes and sorted the exhaust out as it was knocking on the rear beam..

big thanks to tom (torsa g) helping me with this, dont underestimate how much he knows..

As the car looked in a sorry state with the paint work going to the famous pink after not cleaning it for a while tom got the mop out for me and ive never seen it look so shinny in my life.

Sorry there is no pictures to go with this, but as soon as i can find the camera lead i will post the pictures up for all too see.

Plans for the car.
1) exhaust system for it as im running the old standard pee shooter still
2)sort out the flat spot problem that i still have
3)re ground cam from autosprint in birmingham
4) semi smooth boot and door re painted along with wings and bonnet

Right today been doing test to sort out the flat spot out using autodata i meashured the ohms from the coolant temp sensor and the readings for that is well out, so im going to change that along with a cool running thermostate, if its running sweet, im off down to hi tech i think and put it on the rollers to see what power its putting out.

Another update really

ordered a cool running thermostat from lmf took a few days to arrive, removed the old one and the seal just fell apart as i was taking it off and the new one didnt have a seal so i had to go and by another thermostate just for the seal as i needed the car for pvs

the new one runs from 82-87 degrees the old one was 97 - 107 degrees

also replayed the cts sensor at the same time hopeing this would help stop the flat spot but no look

picked up my exhaust from sadle_xe today a sportex system with a straight through pipe

hopefully will get the exhaust fitted on saturday will take some more pictures then

well last night was eventful, after driving up my road i had to come straight back, as you take the revs to over 2k you get an engine knock, think its the crank starting to go on its way out in need of a new bottom end if anyone has one going.

ahhh okay...nothing to do wit the pistons then. Have you done a compression test on it at all? what is it showing. Am worried that when i build up this bottom end, im gonna put too much compression in there...dont want it munching headgaskets.

havent done a compression test on it as im away this week till the weekend , i know what you mean, ive tried looking all week to see if anyone else has done this with the 8v bottom end and i cant find anything on it, if i can get a compression tester saturday morning from work when i get my tools i quickly do it but it wont take long to do though, simple and straight forward.

After two/ three days solidly looking, joining endless forums joining 24/7 spares and other sites like that, i have managed to find another 2 litre 8v engine, hopefully it will be dropped off this weekend, the plan is to take mine out. Swap over the bottom ends and just put it back together.
But in the long run this will give me chance to fully rebuild another engine.
Going to have the old crank re grounded and shells made up. buying new redtop pistions again to higher the compression ratio up.
Ive been trying to have a look around for the best headgasket to use, i know people run turbo's on these engines but they dont really let on what headgasket they are using.
With the spare head going to be Ported and Polished. Might look into getting a Kent Cam or get the original one re ground. Swap the engines back over and run it in, and then set up something else that im slowly buying bits for at the moment. but thats about 4-6 months down the line and will be reveled nearer the time.

right, i have spoken to chris astley about the headgasket issue, and he said that in his 156bhp SEH/XE escort mk2, he used a GM 8v headgasket.

so thats sorted it for me!
