He's not the only security guard on the show. He's a massively fat old timer who looks intimidating. If it kicked off a swarm of security staff would come in.
If someone wanted to have a pop at Simon Cowel in that audition room id put money on them getting to Simon with time for a dig or 2 before Tony got to them.
Granted he could use his weight to over power you but he has to catch you 1st and anyone with a big of strength and speed he'd have no chance. If Tony went down i doubt he'd get back up.

Security isnt just about being "tough and hard" its about awareness, recognising danger before it happens and organisation etc. The guy obviously knows his shit otherwise simon cowell would have someone else.

Granted but if a situation kicked off you'd expect him to by physically fit enough to man handle people and IMO he doesnt look capable.

he certainly looks strong enough to handle someone, granted if they ran off he wouldnt be able to catch them i doubt but he has quite a bit of weight behind him and he could definately restrain someone. The most common and effective martial arts used in situations doesn't require you to be some super fit guy with an amazing physique, if you can joint lock and know how to hold submission holds etc then you can do your job well. Most fights end up on the ground, therefore if you can grapple your quids in, with him ontop of you holding you down i'd expect you to be restrained

I've met Tony at Britains Got Talent auditions a few weeks ago....he's a really nice guy... and a bit fat, but I wouldn't mess with him...
Remember, most of the time, security and close protection is all about presence, which is often enough to stop someone thinking about having a pop.

I dont know anything about the guy but why the hell would someone with simons wealth scrimp on security?
dont forget you get a lot of guys in the security industry that look huge, fit and bad ass but some of them are fucking useless.
