The bodyshop they recomended I went to last night. The supervisor came out and barely looking at it said yeah that will pull out and fill. Wasnt happy with that at all so I went to the bmw approved bodyshop nearby my house tonight and he said definetly a new panel (inside trim has come off due to the impact)
He says the repair is likely to cost 50% of the cars value.

Yeah but if the insurance see that filling it will be cheaper surely they would say they want it filled ?
Nah it was parked outside my boss house and his neighbour reversed into it

surely you have the right to refuse a measly pull and cataloy/fill the rest if i spend 5/6k on a car there would be no way in hell i would be letting the insurance scrimp on getting it repaired end of the day thats what you pay insurance for

thats shit mate, feel gutted for you. Theres no way that will just need pulled out and smoothed over the body filler would crack eventually as its on a large smooth surface
Take it to 2 of the dearest places you know and go with either of them as you get to decide who does the work
Autotechnique is a VERY good bodyshop over this way, hes extremly expensive but you get what you pay for

I was really impressed with the BMW bodyshop. The guy said the insurance are just trying to bully me into doing what they say and that he can get his accident legal team to sort it all for me

be careful with how you follow this through as if you take it somewhere to quote for a new panel the insurance may just write the car off if the repair is too expensive.
alternatively if it does get written off, get the salvage rights on it to buy it back and pay for the repair yourself.

I was a bit worried about the cost of a new panel and the fact it might be written off , but I dont see that happening. I am told that the car will be repaired up to its value. So say its market value is maybe 3.5k , I dont see it costing that much to fix !

dont be too sure mate, if its worth 3.5k then its highly likely they will write it off for a new panel.
as said, just be careful with how you go about it and make sure you are in the know of how the insurance are processing it

60-70% of it's value i believe.
no point paying for repairs that are going to cost 99% of the car's value is it.

Why not ? They are still not paying the full cost of the car. And how is it going to cost £3.5k to replace a rear quarter !
