Just wondering if anyone here has done any of the above.

I have just passed my IAM test, anyone else done anything?

Just looking on the RoSPA website, it seem o soo formal!

Ive learnt alot with the IAM, lil discount on my insurance (5%) and I am now looking at running my groups Young Driver Network.

I maintain if I knew when I did in the summer, the crash wouldnt have happened.

Nope. Dad is an ex traffic cop so he had to do all sorts of courses and he's passed on most of it to me.

The groups ARE full of old crumblies (the meets are anyway), but my instructor was the the funniest guy ever, really enjoyable time doing the course. £85 (£75 if your under 25 iirc).

You join a local group, and they deal with MOST of the admin for you.

So do you think this particular course (IAM) is the best advanced course to be looking at? i am thinking of asking for something like this for christmas.

Do you have to drive 'properly (12 to 2)' on your test

IMO IAM is the place to start. Yes you have to drive properly, test style, but you learn how to handle country roads properly, how to maximise your vision @ all times etc etc.

its not really about bad habbits, it about using speed in the right places, loking ahead, judging conditions properly, well worth it iff you ask me.

Ok cool, i had a quick browse as much as i could because im at school, and it said something about renewing membership, is this necessary or when your qualified is that it? e.g you get a certificate and the jobs a good un', which you would show insurance companies etc? and also with this course is it purely distance etc or will it be teachings in controlling the car when in a slide etc? apologies for my stupidity

The course is driving on the road, not racing. You pay £18 a year for IAM membership to keep the badge if you like.

Also been looking into doing this, but must check if the insurance will be affected first I think........is yours only on 5% discount while you keep paying the £18 a year or forever?

Handy knowledge all the same though, and if it could help you avoid an accident, invaluble.
