Went out in my car about 3.30pm no problems, went to do some shopping and parked up outside a shop for about 10mins whilst I got a christmas present, came back started the car and was a crackling sort of sound coming from the dashboard. Thought id get it home and take a look, got to a set of traffic lights and the noise got really loud and engine management light was flashing on and off, thought I had better pull over, as I pulled off in the middle of the traffic lights/cross roads the car just cut out and smoke came pouring out from the bonnet. Luckily a fire engine was minutes away and could smell it and came down to give us a hand stopping traffic and pushing the car to a small road, they took a look around and said it doesn't look too serious which put a smile back on my face but its something electrical around the dashboard area, maybe behind the stereo.
Breakdown came didn't even take a look dropped me off at home and now the cars sitting outside my house and I haven't got a clue what to do now.

Lights etc come on fine so there is power just the car doesnt start.
Would this be down to a fuse blow? Dont want to buy a starter motor if it isnt that.

I think some wire may of become lose or something, like a loose wire... maybe crossed and caused some sparks / smoke...
Then also as a result blew some fuses... hence you turn the key and it's absolutely dead.
but if you replace the fuse, it may blow again unless you find the original problem.

It was the starter motor which caught fire, lil_g04 sorted it out for me though.
May have a new car within the next week or so.
