My mate is going to buy one soon, the car is a T reg with 47000 miles with FFSH. It's VERY clean and runs mint but the guy reckons it's running at 180bhp. So I went to look at it for my mate and it's only running the standard intercooler and no chips just a filter and de-cat (from what I could see). I was under the impression that you can get 170-180bhp from these engines pretty easy but I would have thought the way to do it would be with a fmic and a seb2(i think) chip. Am I wrong? Is it possible to get 180bhp without these mods?

Won't be 180bhp with just a intercooler you are right there. With a Seb2 chip and intercooler it will be about 180bhp yes again your are correct.

GT1 standard was 136bhp (L-M registration)
GT2 standard was 133bhp (M - to early P registration)
GT3 standard was 130bhp (P - W registration)

Can the standard ecu be re-mapped. i.e. for more boost. I questioned him about what mods had been done and he said he wasn't sure as it was his brother that did all the modifications. He showed me a RR printouts of before and after and it was 140bhp to start off with then after it was 181bhp.

You can do it the AK way, but wouldn't be as good as a remapped chip.

lol. reminds me of strapping turbo's to xe's. aslong as theres enough fuel and the injector duty cycle isnt exceeded thers no reason why not i suppose

Also I think the RR was over reading because its a GT3 so dosn't make 140 standard. So it is probably more like 170bhp. I drove it and it just didn't feel like 180bhp in fact my cav gsi feels alot faster and that is no more than 165

It was stripped to fuck!

As for reliability as Jamie has mentioned its a myth they are unreliable as I belive when AK got his hands on it, well it got abused pretty bad and never once broke IRRC

for that kind of power youd be looking at a seb 4.1 set up dont believe anyone when they just give a bhp quote without proof.

generally they arent that bad reliability wise they suffer from bad electrics and prone to head gasket failure when people fit a bleed valve and up the boost.

have a look on
