A few things first.
1) I know we shouldn't take this as concrete, like it says in the mag.
2) I see this test as pretty fair. Same car, same rolling road.

Users always say on here how most people over estimate the BHP an air filter (mainly cone filter induction types) gives to the car, and the same with panel filters.

So how, if their test is pretty accurate, are these filters giving gains of about 9bhp?

And then, why doesn't the driver notice any difference on the road in terms of performance, which you'd surely do if there was an increase?

did they do a run before and after?

many things can affect output by 9bhp, air temp changes tyres pressures, all sorts

if there were no runs beforehand that instantly throws this out anyway

It was 101bhp with standard air box.

And 111bhp or something WITHOUT any kind of air filter.

Didn't Dave do a test with no filter and it gave 6BHP or something?

That engine had a sock filter or something.

This was basically taking out the airbox and having nothing to stop water & dirt getting into the engine. This was only on the rolling road. Obviously, you wouldn't do it on the road

A gain in BHP isn't going to be that noticable. You'd notice it if the torque increased though.

Ok, going back to my other question then. Why did they see BHP gains of quite a fair bit, when people on here say induction kits don't give you much gain

Like it was said in that article. The results ain't really that accurate. You'll get more accurate results from driving down an A road at 60mph on a cool day coz you've got lotsa cool air going thru whereas on a dyno, the car isn't actually moving.

Yeah, and because one of the filters was stationary, it didn't give such good results.

So therefore, it's like saying those that gave good results because they weren't moving, will give worse results when they are moving. . .

as long as the dyno they used had a colling fan with a minimum of 14,000 cfm then it would create the effect of the car moving at over 40 mph. depending on the area the cooling fan covers that is.
