Only thing I find with the allen key is the allen key rounding the thingy off. I'd take them to a garage and ask them to wizzy gun it.

the rears, just two bolts behind the trim in the boot and drop the rear shock down?

stsve are you sure you dont need a special tool to undo the fronts ?, you do on a lupo/mk4 golf

well whatever went wrong did, the rears were a piece of piss, did them in about an hour.

then the problems started on the front, the main thing thats taken us ages is removing the bolts in the top of the strut, two came out ok the third was a cunt.

Basically there is a threaded hole on the strut plate, but the threaded hole sheared and was just spinning with the bolt, tried all sorts, ended up drilling it out, which was also taking ages due to it being forged bolts.

Got that out in the end, then managed to crease my wing slightly from the inside out in two places trying to manouvre the strut out.

Had to leave it tomorrow, we will need to weld a nut on the back of the strut plate to restore it to having 3 bolts in it.

Then gonna have to try and tap the creases out with body work hammers, otherwise might need to get the dent bloke to do it

I had to drill the strut top mount nut off my mk4 the other week aswell it was an absolute pig I understand your frustration!
