My bro is going on a round the world trip for 6 months leaving in an hour! lucky git Sounds fun but not sure I could do it. I would say going alone is ok if maybe a bit unsafe? Would meet a lot of new people though.

Depends on the person I reckon. I have a friend who does it all the time. I could never do it. Think there is a lot of luck involved too who you drop on to and end up friends with, he says you sometimes get stuck with people you don't really like.

A flat mate of mine took a year out before uni and traveled alone, from what he has told me he didnt find it all that bad since he made friends on the way.
He traveled around Asia and what not. Some of his pictures are awesome

Nah its fine - you dont travel alone for very long put it that way. Within a week maybe you'll meet a group and just stick with em, chances are they'll have started out alone too, then maybe you'll move to a different group. I love travelling alone to start out with, its a real challenge and it really makes you a stronger person too.

I'd say go for it, you'll meet people in no time at all and have the best time of your life, like I have........twice now on long trips.

Oh yeah, as for the island full of Cannabis - I have been to a field of the stuff - im talking about 14 acres too - 7ft high. In Northern Vietnam, 5 miles from the Chinese border.

I reckon I made 200 new friends in a year trip. maybe 50 I talk to regularly, others not so often, some never. I stayed in 80+ Hostels / guesthouses in lets say 20 months of total travel time across all my trips. I started out alone, but not for long.....you wont believe how quickly and easily you make good, long lasting friendships and not forgetting romances.

Hope this helps you out.

I do try

Travel alone. Make new friends. Travel with friends and you'll end up sitting in the corner with your mates and never meet anyone new

I concur I reckon you'll value the time more if you don't go with existing friends - just easier
to do what you want to do also.
