Been looking at Oil burners this weekend; went to view an Audi A4 Cabriolet and a BMW 320CD M sport, was impressed with both but looked at the figures for both and the Audi only returned 38 MPG which I didn't think was that great, as the BMW returned 49 and was actually quicker.

Don't know what else to look at before I take the plunge and get one; the criteria is it needs to be fairly sporty and luxurious, ideally looking for 39+ MPG as that's what I get from my Corsa, insurance isn't really an issue as its going to be cheaper than I pay now whatever it is really! the ones I looked at were around £17,000 mark and at max 5 years old.

Any other suggestions?

Dont think you'd go wrong with either of those. A4 is nicer looking inside and out does more like 44MPG but still less than the 320D eitherway.

BMW has the better engine!

Might pick up an A3 S-line TDi for that money aswell. Probably a pre-facelift with half leather so not quite as luxurious the 140 engine will do high 40s/early 50s easy.

Not a fan of the Passats to be honest, a bit to bland.

A3 with nice spec might be an option to look at tho

wont beat the drive of the bmw from other german rivals, a4s look nicer and may be better built inside.

my dad test drove the 335d twin turbo thing and the mpg on the computer didnt go below 38mpg.

330d should return about 42mpg auto abit lower.

i kno your not having a dig

i do know what you mean, the desiel will be just as quick as the petrol give or take,
but will eat the petrol engine on the motorway and mid range etc.

petrol round ours is 99.9p and desial is 102.9.

i dont kno what it would save you over a year though lol

but also service intivals aswell are less for a desial engine aswell.

Thats what I was wanting (same model/colour/spec) when I was considering various cars. Couldnt warrant spending that much just now though, also I only need my oil burner for about a year! Bought a Mk4 tdi instead then proceeded to crash it
