Alex's car is dead
Just been on the phone to him and he has explained...
water temperature was way over into the red, car cut out. Now will not start. Water was boiling over and the level seems to have risen. Water also apprears abit darker in colour.
Oil looks clean and un-contaminated, radiator fan fuse is blown so no cooling from fan. Hes now checking thermostat.
Ideas?
Thermostat faulty, engine over heated and melted head gasket?

Could well possibly be headgasket, but it happened so quick etc but there is no mayo - what ever happens, temperatures like that can't be good for the car

tbh its not had the easiest of lifes since alex has had it Ive got quite a few smallblock xe parts in my box so fingers crossed it shouldnt be anything too serious, from the sounds of it it might just be the radiator fan is knackered. we will find out for deffinate tommorrow though

Should start even if the head is warped from overheating TBH.
How did the water boil over? was he driving around with the lid off the coolant tank, or did he take it off when the car was hot?

tell hime to let all the water out and see if it starts and runs ok, if it does, the head is warped or the HG is fudged, that's what mine did, it was fine with no water in

head gasket won't show water in oil on x14/16's; it's is the anti freeze that corrodes the gasket so it leaks down the back of the block if it is that. If the header tank smells of exhaust, then it most certainly is
