OK i started the gym in Jan this year. I have decided not to renew. So i sent them a letter saying im not renewing and why, and also said i shall be cancelling the direct debit after they've taken Decembers payment.
So, IMO i've honoured the 12 month contract.
I got an expected phone call discussing my letter and get some bird trying to persuade me to come back but i said no. at the end of the phone call, she said there's a 3 month period after notification, so the last payment will be in february. WTF?!?! thats 14 months of payment!
Can they do this? If they can, its totally wrong, and TBF i havent read the contract, but i wasnt told when we were discussing the contract when i joined.
I think it's a complete con. I think i'll still cancel the DD in december...do you think they will be bothered about collecting the money? given the nature of my letter was utter discontent.
The gym in question is Next Gen Clubs

be wary of just cancelling the DD. depending on the gym, admin team dealing with it, they may choose to pursue the rest of the money due on the contract and refer to collection agency. Ive seen it happen.
'Just cancelling' the DD, can have implications, just so you are aware.

Like I say mate, rolling contracts
Most likely they won't do anything but still, slightly risky
