was having a talk with a mate last night.
he says that smoothed indicators are an MOT fail. But my car has had smoothed indicators for a while now (before ive had it) and has passed MOT's
anyone shed any light? As mines in like a week.

You must be able to see indicators from the side of the car.
Its possible that your front indicators wrap around enough to pass

Depends on the year, you might get away with it if you can see the fronts, but if it's after 1985 (I think) you should have them.

think you have to be able to see the indicators/side repeater from 1m away from the side of the car near the rear lights or sumit like that

it all depends on the year, if after 1986 then you need them on the side of the car.

if the wires are still there run the wires over the wing, and tape the repeaters to the wing. take them off again when its done. tester cant remove them and they are there during the test. guy with a full;y smoothed golf did it this way and passed fine

from mot manual
Lamps incorporating a side repeater are marked either with an 'E' mark in a circle or an 'e' mark in a rectangle above which is a number 5. Some vehicles are fitted with a wraparound lens with no European approval markings. These can be tested by standing approximately 1000mm to the side of the vehicles rear bumper with indicator on. If amber light can be seen coming through the front lens (not a reflection) this is acceptable
