Anyone play?
my mate and i have decided to take this up, played a couple of times now and im improving drastically thing is though im playing with happy gilmore style clubs  is it worth investing in new ones if im only playing as a hobby?

I prefer going to the driving range and smacking the shit out of 100 balls with me dads driver tho, cba learnign to play properly right now
always played with him when i was younger tho
DO NOT BUY EXPENSIVE NEW CLUBS, buy a cheap set but make sure they are the right size

its good fun need a cart though its a pain carrying the clubs about.
getting some good long straight drives and my putting is good just my iron play and pitching i need to work on big time

I've been playing for just over two years now and I'm currently playing off a handicap of 22.
I mainly got into it becasue serious injury playing Rugby and invites through work and now I have well and truly caught the bug.
It can be an expensive sport when starting out however you can get some great starter sets by the like of RAM, McGregor and Nike for around the £200-£250 mark, then you can just upgraded them piece by piece as you improve and develop your game
I'm currently looking into some better clubs now that my handicap is starting to come down, really fancy the Mizuno MX-25's although £400 is a bit more than I have to spare at the moment.
Seriously though it's a great sport to get into and one that you can play competitively for the rest of your life.

yeh i try now and again.
im like you with the gilmore clubs, just carry some old ones around the course with me look a right gypo.
for my leval tho it suit me, no point spending big £ unless ur pretty gd imo

Got into it about 2 years ago but only been playing regularly since about april.
Play every friday normally but weather is too shabby today.
Have hit a massive low in confidence at the minute and not playing terribly well, thinking about stopping playing until next year all toegther.
If you are just starting buy some half decent clubs (get a full set with some extra's thrown in for about £250), I am at the stage where I want to get a few lessons tbh.

lessons are good but you need to have the patience with them while the pro completely ruins your stance, grip and style
ive been playing for years, always had donnay clubs which were alright but i have finally upgraded this year,
Nike Irons and a Cobra F/Speed driver, and my game has drastically improved, went round a course in coventry in 9 over last month, my greatest achievement.
Get some starter clubs, no point spending hundreds, and also, my tip is to drive off using a 3 wood, better to use one of those as you get more consistancy compared to a driver.
Buy a good putter, and it is good practice to never change that putter

As said, invest in a decent set of starter clubs for around £200 it may also be worth while looking at the possibility of buying a high quality second hand set.
I just bought new woods this season king cobras quite pricey but they are so well balanced, and i'd say im probably hitting an extra 20 yards with them. plus they look damn

I've got some Adams golf ones cost me about £280 brand new with bag, putter, glove, lob wedge etc.
My best is a 97, par was low 70s
I am not gonna enjoy changing my stance and grip etc but somethings gotta give for me to start getting better, gonna hang fire with lessons until new year though.

Oh defo, even if they're just cheep ones, todays technology is far more better than years ago, i struggle with Blade type clubheads, go for some steel shafted cavity backs

got king cobra l4vx driver its only a 9 degree loft though and i was used to hitting 10 but i got used to it really fast. its definitely the best driver ive ever had. got mine a bit cheaper as my ex's brother works in my local pro shop.

My driving is getting more consistent. My driver is a 430cc iirc 11 degree, bit hard to keep consistent, could do withsomething a bit shallow, my 5 is an awesome fairway weapon

5 wood is a great club imo, good for recovery shots etc, soon youll just step up to the ball and do your "natural swing" i used to concentrate so hard on hit the ball consistantly but now i dont think about it.
a bit like riding a bike, once you know how, you just do it. and progress your skills etc.
i can consistantly drive 280-300 yards now, but can just let the hole down by "3-putting"

We have a local 9 hole links course called the warren it's only a municipal but it's good for a short round, well tricky. Been hitting 250+ drives quite straight of late. My short game seems to have gone to shit as has my putting
Got a fucking 8 on a par 3 last week

Driving is the strongest part of my game, I can consistantly hit 280-300yrd drives and I can also get good distance with my irons. What lets me down is i have absolutley no touch around the greens. Anything less than a half swing with my wedge and I'm totally screwed.

I love little chips around the green normally. I tend to use a straighter faced club like a 6 if there's no hazard in the way, much more control imo.
I also have discovered I cannot use my lob wedge at all unless the ball is floating ontop of some rough

If you are going to play quite often I reckon it would be worth while getting a new set. Decent clubs shouldn't really cost the Earth but will be beneficial to your game
