I have a question....

When someone buys a new car, is it down to the dealer to supply the DVLA with the Chassis number and engine number before a log book and plates are issued?

If anyone can help that would be great.

Well as above really.

Is it the dealers responsibility to provide the dvla with the chassis and engine number details.

Well it's not down to the new car owner. As far as I know when the car is registered and taxed the info is passed to the DVLA, who then issue the new V5

now depends I think if its leased or purchased.

As by purchased its your car so unsure
But I leased a car for three years and it is down to them as actually the car is Vauxhalls and not yours if you get what I mean

The cars are put onto a DVLA system, i think by the manufacturer, not the actual dealership. Like, SEAT head office somehow get the info to DVLA. The dealership then signs into the DVLA 'AFRL' registration system where the cars loaded on automatically to for that dealer, then they register it.
