it comes from having the top green triangle at the front, with the orange l peice moved a row lower, and red triangle on top

Its to do with the red and dark green triangles? they are switched around the red one is 3 squares high and the green only 2 therefore since the red one is higher this means that angle is steeper on the top one so does not need as much length to reach the same hight where as the angle on the bottom one is not as steep so the hole is needed to line them up on the right if you get me lol

Because of the slopes of the triangles, the upper one has a slight dip in the longest side, the lower one rises slightly.
Each 'triangle' is actually 0.5 squares too large.....

slops on triangles at the top are not straight. e.g they are slightly dipped in middle where joined
